Harkidun – The Valley of Gods – 110km

Situated approximately 110 km from our resort in Barkot, Harkidun is a breathtaking valley in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its untouched beauty, alpine meadows, and rich mythology. Often referred to as the “Valley of Gods,” Harkidun is believed to be the path followed by the Pandavas to ascend to heaven, as per the Mahabharata.

Accessible via a multi-day trek from Sankri (the base village), Harkidun attracts adventurers, photographers, and nature lovers from all over the country. The trail is dotted with dense forests, gushing streams, ancient villages, and stunning views of snow-covered peaks like Swargarohini. During spring and summer, the valley blooms with colorful wildflowers, while winter blankets the landscape in snow.

This moderate trek is perfect for both beginners and seasoned trekkers looking for a Himalayan escape. Along the way, one can explore traditional wooden houses in villages like Taluka and Osla, interact with warm-hearted locals, and get a glimpse of the unique Garhwali culture.

Though Harkidun requires a 3-4 day trekking commitment, the experience is truly rewarding. If you’re staying at our resort in Barkot, we can help you arrange transport to Sankri and connect you with trusted trekking guides and gear providers.
